I was extremely honored to be asked to paint an oil portrait of Dr. Hunter McGuire. He was the Civil War surgeon who amputated Stonewall Jackson's left arm, when he was wounded near Chancellorsville. Hunter McGuire was known for many skills; he was a truly gifted doctor and a superb teacher, an outstanding orator, a brilliant administrator, and a prolific writer and author.
